Frederic Henry Pease Biography
Thank you Janice Anschuetz of Ypsilanti who wrote a wonderful biography of Frederic H Pease for the Ypsilanti Historical Society. It should be published in the next "Gleanings" so rush over and join the Ypsilanti Historical society so you will get a copy! I've seen an email copy and it's truly honorific!
I have "adopted" Janice into our family so she can see our KingPease and Hewitt Post Facebook Family Groups. Contact me if you are family and want to participate!

Dolsen Family in Detroit
This google book has five pages on the Dolsen family.
Historical collections, Volume 28
By Michigan Pioneer and Historical Society, Michigan State Historical SocietyDown load it here: http://books.google.com/books?id=cJgUAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA607&dq=Levi+Dolsen&lr=&ei=Q66KS-naIpDMlQT7_7TTDQ&cd=8#v=onepage&q=Levi%20Dolsen&f=false
Who is Levi Dolsen?
Levi is Josephine Pease's Father aka Leviticus Euphrates Dolsen. He knew Father Gabriel Richard and people said he looked like Richard. So when Father Richard died, Levi posed for his statue that used to be at St. Anne's church at the base of the Ambassador bridge to Windsor, Ontario. Levi had been on the Detroit school board and was interviewed by the newspaper as Detroit's Longest Living Resident. He made a lot of money in the fur business. When he died he gave $25,000 to each of his daughters. Our Max Pease got $5,000 that he spent on race horses. Another brother tried to invent a machine for perpetual motion. I guess that was a lot of money back then.
Levi's father was Matt Dolsen, the traitor not the tavern owner, son of Isaac. Issac had a tavern on the US side while his brother Matthew had one across the River. Matt was called the traitor because he was in the British Army and then switched sides and acted as a scout for the Americans in the War of 1812. Apparently hhe had trouble fighting against Detroit as he was raised in Detroit and had grandparents in Detroit.
Levi was born 7 Jan 1813 in Raleigh, Kent, Ontario. He married Eliza Ann Stevens, daughter of Henry Stevens on the 1 Jan 1834. Eliza died in 1843, the same year her daughter Lura died. Interesting coinsidence, since Josephine died after the birth of her 5th child. I wonder if she had O negative blood?
Levi and Eliza's first daughter "beautiful Josephine" was born 18 Jun 1840, and she died after childbirth on t10 Nov 1877. Josephine's husband was Frederic Pease and Lura's husband was Samuel Parsons.. Somebody was putting flowers on Lura's grave in the 1970's.... would love to find our missing cousins!

Josephine's Stained Glass Window Has Been Found
Thanks cousin Peter, you've helped us find out about the window. I have been i contact with St. Lukes church, hoping to find out more about the window. They didn't know much about our family and that Frederic Pease was the Dean of the School of Music at Michigan Normal, now Eastern Michigan University. I am hoping to see a picture of the window and that they will let me post it here! Cousin Jonathan has the oil painting of Josephine and her father Levi Dolsen, and Peter has photographs. I still have not found many Pease cousins... speak up y'all!

Josephine Antoinette Dolsen
Married Frederic Pease. She died after having her fifth child. I wonder if she had RH negative factor like me.
Josephine's parents were Ann Eliza Stevens (about 1815) and Leviticus Euphrates Dolsen (1813). Levi's father was Matt Dolsen, the traitor not the Matt Dolsen, the tavern keeper. They were nephew and uncle I suspect. I hope my Canadian Cousins can help untangle these branches.

Last summer's reunion with the Chaffee girls at Jonathan's was so much fun (great food Susan!) and we enjoyed photo swapping and seeing each other's family history stuff.
Maybe we should go to Massachusetts and see the Salem Pease house and the Pease house in Stockbridge?
I think I have a lead on Levi Dolsen's wife Ann Eliza Stevens may be from Kent County Ontario before moving to Oakland County MI. That could be another trip too!
Stay in touch!

Ypsilanti Heritage Foundation
Look at the past issues to find out about Ypsilanti. The January 2002 issue discusses the "New Ypsilanti Opera House" that Frederic Pease attended. It is very nice to see the fine old houses getting fixed up and awarded historical markers.

Josephine's on Amazon
Zora Huston writes about her friend Josephine Van "Doltzen" Pease (on page 799)and Edith... its gota be ours! Philadelphia is far away from Ypsilanti. Maybe that's where Edith is from? I always thought "Big Jo" would stay current with the times!
